The same old story....Heilman and offense blow game late!

How many losses and blown games does it take for the Mets to do something about Aaron Heilman? and Duaner Sanchez? Maybe Sept 1 callups will help? Somehting has to give!
I am tired of all the excuses from Jerry Manuel. Bad ankle, bad back? Come on. Then put them on the DL and bring up someone from the minors!
And where is the offense after the 3rd inning? WAKE UP!
Carlos Beltran back to and 0 for 3 night. Hero one night, goat the next.
When is have some consistency?
The Mets should be way out in front by now! At least have a nice cushion.
The starting pitching has been excellent and wasted! It's a shame! And how frustrating!
I don't have much else to say right now about this situation, as I think I have said it all!
We can just wait and hope!

Carlos is in Charge, and the bullpen holds! Mets win Big game!

Carlos Delgado is on fire! He is part of the reason the Mets are in first these days. Of course, we cannot forget Fernando Tatis, Mike Pelfrey, Johan Santana, Jose Reyes and the super subs!

Where is the other Carlos these days? Moving him to the 5 spot isn't helping. I woudn't be adverse to moving him behind Ryan Church!

How about that Bullpen last night! Of course, some defensive help gave them a lift!

So they are back in First. Winning 6 of the last 8 from Philly? That's what we like to see. That is key, with 3 more at home against them! That could be the difference in the standings at the end of the season! So now we have to root for the Cubs while we do our business against the Fish! The Marlins are still hanging around so we need to be careful! Playing in Florida seems to be good for the Mets. Let's see if that trend continues!

Now I don't like to talk about our cross town rivals on my blog. But I must. They are 10.5 back and 7 out of the wild card race. What are these comments about last years Mets and giving them inspiration about being able to overcome the current deficit? First of all, there are 2 teams ahead of them. One is the Red Sox. They are much better than the September Mets of last year. You think that they are going to fold? No way! The other is Tampa Bay. The Rays have yet to show any kind of folding under pressure. The catch in the 9th inning last night with two outs to save the game was spectacular! This team would have to lose more than half of its remaining games for the Yankees to even have a chance. I don't see that happening. Plus, the Yankees have to win over 20 games in September. The way they are playing I don't see that. They have to play Tampa, Boston, Chicago and California on a West Coast trip. They have to climb over 2 teams for either the division title or wild card. So the comparisons to last years Mets are not there! Give it rest Yankees! Get the fork out so we can stick it in you!

Same old news, Bullpen, offense fails late, Mets lose big game.

What does Jerry Manuel do? The Mets seem to score at will in the first few innings and then go to sleep. Why is it that all the other teams bullpen can shut down the Mets potent offense, but the Mets bullpen blows leads nightly against the weak hitting parts of the opponents lineup.
The weak hitting Astros did it, now the Phillies light hitters (Ruiz, Bruntlett and Coste) all get key hits. Just say NO to Aaron Heilman and Duaner Sanchez. Move them down to the minors and bring up some of the younger guys. Heilman and Sanchez are gone after this year anyhow. Why not get some of the future players a chance. They cannot do any worse than what these guys are doing now!
I heard Oman Minaya on WFAN the other day discussing that there are no pitchers any better out there that the Mets could get there hands on at this point. So, what does that tell you. We can't wait for a Billy Wagner that may or may not be healthy. Something has to be done now, before its too late!
Maybe someone can explain the reasoning behind the H (Help?) in the Boxscore. How does Duaner Sanchez have 21 of them? He got credit for one last night? He gave up a run and got one out! Why does he get credit for anything other than a Blown Help? That stat is meaningless!
Johan Santana goes tonite, and hopefully he can go 8 or 9 and the Mets get him some runs. Oh no, did I just jinx him like I did Pedro?

Delgado & Pelfrey crush Astros!

What a great night for Carlos Delgado and Mike Pelfrey. Both were flying high as the Mets prevented the Astros from taking their final series ever at Shea! It was great to see Carlos come through again! I really believe that he needs to hit cleanup against righties at this stage. Carlos Beltran is not pulling his weight! Maybe Delgado should even hit cleanup against lefties. That second home run was off a lefty!
After a disaster of a day on Sunday (and Saturday), it was nice to see the Mets come back in big fashion last night. Hopefully this will get them going for the two games against the Phils.
With Mike Pelfrey pitching a complete game again, the bullpen should be plenty rested for the Phillies. Although, with some of these relievers, that does not seem to matter. Aaron Heilman continues to blow games and now its rubbing off on Pedro Feliciano. These guys have to come through NOW! The race is tight and its going to get tighter as the number of games dwindles!
I think Jerry Manuel is doing an outstanding job and Dan Warthen is working miracles with the pitching staff, especially the starters! Maybe he will get the bullpen to improve too!
The Mets have a slight advantage in their schedule over the Phillies. At this point, the Marlins seem to be fading and hopefully will continue. I think the Mets advantage comes with the Chicago Cubs! Both the Mets and Phillies play them. The Mets have them at Shea (in the last week of Shea Stadium) and the Phillies play them in Chicago. I am hoping that those last week of games at Shea will give the Mets a huge lift. There will be a full house each night and lots of emotion!
Tonite its Pedro vs Jamie Moyer. This guy gives the Mets fits! He is a tough lefty. Mets need Pedro to continue to improve and go deeper into the game. This is important to see if Pedro is going to be a factor in the Mets making the playoffs and going anywhere further! I am rooting for Pedro!
Until tomorrow! Lets go Mets!

Pelfrey Pops Braves!

Not much to say tonite. Good night all around.
Mets got quality and timely hits. Got great pitching from Pelfrey!
He is looking great!
Phils win, so things stay the same for another night!
Mets go for the sweep on Thursday!!

Mets Chopping the Braves!

Well, its about time that the Mets are the ones winning and the Braves are fading.
They no longer have their grips on the Mets! Last night's comeback was a great team effort.
Finally some late game hitting from the Mets gives them a big win. They keep the Phillies at 1.5 games back, and the Marlins 4 back. The Braves are pretty much finished. To climb over 3 teams and already 13 back with a little less than 40 games to go.
Bad news folks. Sounds like Billy Wagner's injury is worse than first thought. He is out indefinitely! Let's hope the offense keeps up the scoring so we have enough for the leaky pen to save the end of games!
What's with WFAN and the attendance figures at Shea? I have heard a lot of complaining about the annunced attendance. For years now, ALL teams announce the ticket sales figure as the attendance, not as the number of fannies in the seats. They don't realize that and they are in the business? Come on guys, the Yankees do it too! As long as the ticket is paid for, these teams do not care if the person actually attends! They still make the money!
I am starting a new blog today about Shea memories. I hope I get some great stories from all you Metsie fans out there!!
Chop Chop!!

Leaky Pen, please no more Heilman!

How long are we going to have to deal with Aaron Heilman as closer? 3 runs in the 9th against a lowly Pirate team? Stick a fork in him, he is done. How many chances does this guy get? What do the Mets see in him that they keep him around? He alone is keeping the Mets out of first place. 3 Blown Saves and 7 losses with a 5.74 ERA? Even if they don't lose half of them, they are in first!
This bullpen is so aggravating! Why is that they can't hold leads to the lesser teams? Houston, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Seattle? Come on guys, wake up!
It looks as if we have to settle for these guys for the season, so the roller coaster will continue!
This part of the schedule SHOULD give the Mets an advantage. They are playing in Washington and Pittsburgh for the next 6 games while the Fish are playing St Louis and Chicago and the Phillies are out West (LA, SD). I have a feeling that things will still be the same by the end of the weekend.
I don't understand why the lesser teams give the Mets such difficulty. Do they not get up for them as they do the better teams? San Diego, Seattle, Pittsburgh, and Washington are all teams they should have at least a .700 record against instead of below .500!!
Let's see if they can change that this week. One can only hope!!
