OFFENSE SCORES ENOUGH FOR BULLPEN TO HOLD

FINALLY, the offense wakes up. Losing to the Braves and Nats without any offense and the bullpen stumbling and bumbling, is a complete embarrassment. Two teams that really are bad and should be easy pickins. Anderson Hernandez is making that trade look bad for the Mets! This guy never hit like this for the Mets! But then again, what trade ever seems to work out for the Mets? Mike Piazza's trade was probably the one and only great trade!
I cannot believe Heilman was brought in again. He did not get anyone out again! This guy is finished. I wish the Mets would realize this!
Lets hope Johann comes up big tonite!
It always amazes me how the teams like Atlanta and Washington play the Mets hard and look like champs and then they play the Phillies and look like chumps.
Mike Gonzalez the Braves reliever looked like Cy Young against the Mets and then chokes against the Phillies.
What really gets me is that the guys that seem to get the big hits in these games are the guys with .240 and lower batting averages. If everyone else can get these guys out, how come this supposed championship level team cannot? Then our big salary guys strike out when the game is on the line? We make these September callup pitchers look like heros!
It's always the same old story. I am not feeling very confident about the rest of the season. The Mets would be lucky to go .500 the rest of the way. The one good thing is that the Brewers had a similar collapse last year and are fading this year too!
So, it looks like the wild card may be backed into! Then there is the Astros, Cardinals and Marlins all looming for a collapse of the Mets and Brewers!

ARE YOU KIDDING? WHY DO THE METS CONTINUE TO USE HEILMAN?

Why on earth does Jerry Manuel continue to put this guy in when the game is on the line? Up 7-5 in the 6th? I knew when he came in what was going to happen!
STOP USING HIM!
Now on the bright side Carlos Beltran and David Wright came through last night and the offense was hitting on all cylinders! And the rest of the bullpen has been great lately!
I can feel that things are different from last year. Winning against the Nats when they needed to this time! The starting pitching needs to do a little better in case the offense starts to falter again!
A weekend at home against the hated Braves. Chipper's (LARRY!) last trip to Shea!
How times are different. The Braves are having an off year so this is the Mets chance to put some more distance between them and the Phillies. The Phillies have the Brewers at home this weekend, so either way that goes, it doesnt hurt the Mets. If the Brewers win, the Mets are better off in the division race. If the Phillies win the Mets are helped out in the Wild Card race!
So we will see how things go!

BIG WIN ON SUNDAY NIGHT, DELGADO & SANTANA SHINE!

Sunday nights game against the Phillies was huge for the Mets. Carlos Delgado and Johan Santana came though in the clutch! It looked like the Phillies were going to get off to a big start in the first inning, but Santana shut the door and only allowed one run!
Then, the turning point had to be Charlie Samuel arguing a catcher's interference call that allowed David Wright to go to first! He got himself thrown out of the game. What on earth was he arguing about? and enough to get himself thrown out? was it worth it Charlie? It seemed to incite the crowd which in turn seemed to get the Mets going. Hits by the Carlos' put the Mets up 3-1 and they never looked back. The Phillies got to 3-2 but Carlos Delgado hit two monster home runs and made it 5-2. Eventually each team go another run for a final of 6-3. The bullpen again looked great! The continue to do a great job without Billy Wagner (now thats another story). It looks like it will be bullpen by committee for the rest of the year? Let's hope Aaron Heilman is not part of that mix!
Two games coming up against the Nats this week? These are games the Mets have to win. No ifs ands or buts!

Mets Cruise, Sweep Brews!

It looks like the offense is on all cylinders now and with the callups from the minors, the bullpen has gotten a boost. Ayala replacing Heilman seems to be working out fine!
This sweep of Milwaukee and the road trip of 6-2 should have the Mets confidence up going into a huge series against the hated Phillies. If they can take 2 or 3 of the games this weekend, things could be looking very good. Anything less and things are tight all over again!
Lets hope Tropical Storm Hannah does not interfere with this weekend! The last thing the Mets need is something like storm to slow them down!

The same old story....Heilman and offense blow game late!

How many losses and blown games does it take for the Mets to do something about Aaron Heilman? and Duaner Sanchez? Maybe Sept 1 callups will help? Somehting has to give!
I am tired of all the excuses from Jerry Manuel. Bad ankle, bad back? Come on. Then put them on the DL and bring up someone from the minors!
And where is the offense after the 3rd inning? WAKE UP!
Carlos Beltran back to and 0 for 3 night. Hero one night, goat the next.
When is have some consistency?
The Mets should be way out in front by now! At least have a nice cushion.
The starting pitching has been excellent and wasted! It's a shame! And how frustrating!
I don't have much else to say right now about this situation, as I think I have said it all!
We can just wait and hope!

Carlos is in Charge, and the bullpen holds! Mets win Big game!

Carlos Delgado is on fire! He is part of the reason the Mets are in first these days. Of course, we cannot forget Fernando Tatis, Mike Pelfrey, Johan Santana, Jose Reyes and the super subs!

Where is the other Carlos these days? Moving him to the 5 spot isn't helping. I woudn't be adverse to moving him behind Ryan Church!

How about that Bullpen last night! Of course, some defensive help gave them a lift!

So they are back in First. Winning 6 of the last 8 from Philly? That's what we like to see. That is key, with 3 more at home against them! That could be the difference in the standings at the end of the season! So now we have to root for the Cubs while we do our business against the Fish! The Marlins are still hanging around so we need to be careful! Playing in Florida seems to be good for the Mets. Let's see if that trend continues!

Now I don't like to talk about our cross town rivals on my blog. But I must. They are 10.5 back and 7 out of the wild card race. What are these comments about last years Mets and giving them inspiration about being able to overcome the current deficit? First of all, there are 2 teams ahead of them. One is the Red Sox. They are much better than the September Mets of last year. You think that they are going to fold? No way! The other is Tampa Bay. The Rays have yet to show any kind of folding under pressure. The catch in the 9th inning last night with two outs to save the game was spectacular! This team would have to lose more than half of its remaining games for the Yankees to even have a chance. I don't see that happening. Plus, the Yankees have to win over 20 games in September. The way they are playing I don't see that. They have to play Tampa, Boston, Chicago and California on a West Coast trip. They have to climb over 2 teams for either the division title or wild card. So the comparisons to last years Mets are not there! Give it rest Yankees! Get the fork out so we can stick it in you!

Same old news, Bullpen, offense fails late, Mets lose big game.

What does Jerry Manuel do? The Mets seem to score at will in the first few innings and then go to sleep. Why is it that all the other teams bullpen can shut down the Mets potent offense, but the Mets bullpen blows leads nightly against the weak hitting parts of the opponents lineup.
The weak hitting Astros did it, now the Phillies light hitters (Ruiz, Bruntlett and Coste) all get key hits. Just say NO to Aaron Heilman and Duaner Sanchez. Move them down to the minors and bring up some of the younger guys. Heilman and Sanchez are gone after this year anyhow. Why not get some of the future players a chance. They cannot do any worse than what these guys are doing now!
I heard Oman Minaya on WFAN the other day discussing that there are no pitchers any better out there that the Mets could get there hands on at this point. So, what does that tell you. We can't wait for a Billy Wagner that may or may not be healthy. Something has to be done now, before its too late!
Maybe someone can explain the reasoning behind the H (Help?) in the Boxscore. How does Duaner Sanchez have 21 of them? He got credit for one last night? He gave up a run and got one out! Why does he get credit for anything other than a Blown Help? That stat is meaningless!
Johan Santana goes tonite, and hopefully he can go 8 or 9 and the Mets get him some runs. Oh no, did I just jinx him like I did Pedro?
